An honest Sun Basket review: A Meal Delivery Kit

I’ve been trying different meal delivery kits, now that I’m mom to a newborn. These boxes have been wonderful, saving us extra trips to the grocery store – and letting us enjoy a fresh, home-cooked meal.

Sun Basket bills itself this way: .@SunBasketMeals makes it easy to cook healthy. Organic produce & clean ingredients and delicious recipes, delivered in 100% recyclable or compostable packaging! Check out this full review of the #mealdeliverykit. Click To TweetPaleo, Lean & Clean, Gluten-Free, Vegan, Vegetarian, Mediterranean, and more options are available.

The box came with most items for each meal packaged separately, so it was simple to see what went with what. The proteins and a few veggies, like the organic mustard greens shown in the photo below, were packaged apart (I suppose for food safety purposes – no cross contamination).

I purchased the Classic Plan, which has 3 meals.

The meal I ended up enjoying the most was tofu with rice noodles, which had a delicious Vietnamese flavor.

My husband actually made it, and he said it was easy to follow the instructions.

He also made New Orleans-style shrimp Creole.

Since we are both from Louisiana, our expectations were high!

The sauces were conveniently packaged.

It ended up tasting really good – but I had to stop eating it, as I’m breastfeeding our newborn baby right now, and I want to avoid spicy foods. The few bites I tried, though, were yummy! My husband was happy to eat my share.

Last, but not least, I made the chicken Katsu, a Japanese-inspired dish. It had a side of white rice, plus the organic mustard greens.

It took about 45-60 minutes to make each dish, depending on how many steps were involved. My husband made the shrimp creole and the tofu with noodles, and they took him about an hour. The chicken Katsu took me about 45 minutes, because I’m quicker in the kitchen.

Overall, I think this is a worthwhile meal delivery kit service, with food in good-sized portions. The emphasis on organic and sustainable food is appealing, and it is a tastier option than other services I’ve tried.
