Getting 8 inches chopped off my hair from a maestro with scissors: Paul Labrecque Salon & Spa in Palm Beach

It had gotten to the point where I was cutting my toddler’s hair on my own (no comment on how that might look)… and the pandemic had left my own hair looking STRAGGLY, y’all.

I’m just gonna leave this photo right here…

Bless my heart, that hair had to GO!

So when I heard that the maestro of scissors himself, Paul Labrecque, was once again offering services at his namesake salon in Palm Beach, I hightailed it over there faster than a hot knife through butter.

I would recommend you consider visiting the Paul Labrecque Salon & Spa at The Royal Poinciana Plaza before you try your own “COVID cut,” because I’ve been hearing rumors that people were taking scissors to their own hair. I would not advise that at all, because even if you’re staying home, you still might do some Zoom calls, you know?!

When I met Monsieur Labrecque, I already knew his reputation not only as a world-renowned stylist, but also as an extraordinarily generous person. He made a name for himself in both New York City and Palm Beach as one of the most talented and creative stylists, and if you read his press accolades in his biography, you would be as impressed as I am. I love how his motto is “helping people look their best and feel their best” because that has always been my YouTube channel motto, as well. When you feel confident, it helps you put your best foot forward.

I finally had the opportunity to do a visit and see for myself just how this legendary salon works. Paul’s business partner and husband, Brian Cantor, greeted me warmly at the door, offering a kind welcome and exuding genuine hospitality. Everyone was masked up (masks are required for entry), and I personally witnessed extensive cleaning of surfaces. When I sat down in Paul’s chair, it had been cleaned and sanitized – so I felt comfortable and safe.

The maestro makes magic

Paul started by assessing my hair and face shape, then asking me questions about my lifestyle and hair type. I confessed to him my thinning had me concerned (I’ve been on a mission to find out just why I lose so much hair). He told me that my suspicion of it being from my dramatic weight loss might not be accurate, and he also recommended ways I could create faux density at my scalp.

When he finally started wielding his scissors, it was with a level of flair and confidence that I myself feel when I sit down at a piano at choir rehearsal. My attitude is like, “I’m going to show you just how good of a sight-reading pianist I am, because I KNOW I am excellent at this skillset.” That’s the same type of demeanor he shows: Paul is supremely confident, because his years of experience has left him with an unmatched level of expertise.

Putting on the finishing touches

After chopping 8 inches off my length, Paul added a little bit of layering and worked on the front area around my face to soften my regrowth and weave in my outgrown bangs. He used his signature line of luxury hair-care products, which has won tons of accolades and media coverage for their simple-to-use, low-maintenance, restorative qualities.

Once complete, my haircut left me feeling transformed. I walked out of Paul’s salon like a new woman, with pep in my step and my freshly-cut locks waving in the Palm Beach breeze.

Feeling so refreshed

Thank you so much to Paul Labrecque Salon & Spa for hosting me for a haircut, so I could experience the many talents and charm of Paul Labrecque himself. I can’t wait to return for more pampering in the future, and meantime I’ll just keep tossing my hair around like a sassy mama!
